Women in Business to Watch

Julie • Mar 05, 2010

Here at Business Among Moms, one of our main goals is to connect working women to give them an opportunity to engage in educational networking experiences that foster meaningful relationships and help bring their business to the next level while also maintaining a much-needed work-life balance. And of course, we love to uplift, support and showcase some of the many hardworking women in our community who are doing a rockstar job.

Here are a few to keep your eye on!

Diane Najm, PhotoPad for Business

Diane Najm offers an easy-to-use design tool for businesses to create, collaborate, edit, design and publish all of their social media marketing from one convenient place and with a single click share to all social media channels. She loves helping women succeed by providing them with the innovative technology of PhotoPad to help them to stand out, get increased engagement and more importantly increase conversion rates!

When asked how she maintains her work-life balance, Diane said, “I do two things every morning. I pause and meditate. It brings me clarity and helps me start the day with intention. For me it is the gym or running that puts the pause on life – I’m focused on me. Be flexible about what pausing your life means to you; maybe it’s a walk or a bike ride. Time management by mapping out the week and schedule time for friends and family. It is important to make family a priority and I always make sure I have a strong circle of people that support and love me.”

To celebrate the launch of new features in PhotoPad, Diane wants to highlight 50 women-owned businesses in all areas across the U.S. From chefs to travel planners, real estate agents, stylist, coaches, retail, to leaders of networking groups. All of these women have chosen to forge their own path and take the leap from passion to business. The “My Design My Story” campaign highlights each of these. We will feature the businesses who create a photo story of their business using PhotoPad or we can create the photo story for them for $9.99. We will feature the businesses across our social media, PR and our newsletter/blog. Visit the PhotoPad website to design your story!

Sheri Gazitt, Teen Wise

At Teen Wise, Sheri offers Teen Life Coaching for Girls, Parent Coaching, Presentations, Online Parenting Videos and the YOU GOT THIS: Yearly Event for Middle School Girls. She specializes in offering guidance and support for parents and their girls, aged 8-18, who need a boost in confidence, friendship skills and/or in finding their inner joy.

When asked what she’s most passionate about in her line of work, Sheri said, “When my client flashes a genuine smile that has been hidden for months, that’s the best feeling in the world. When a parent’s shoulders relax because they know they’ve found someone to support them through the difficult times, that’s a push to reach more parents. When an audience member at a presentation comes up with tears in her eyes to say thank you, that’s the universe giving me a pat on the back. Lending my support to parents and teens is what I’ve been put on this Earth to do, and I love every minute of it.”

While Sheri admits that finding her work-life balance can be difficult because she is so passionate about both, she says that it works because she made a commitment to putting her family first a long time ago. She benefits from owning her own business by setting her own schedule that allows her to fully support her clients but also be available to her family.

Sheri has kindly offered out BAM community a free recording of CREATING SPACE FOR YOUR TEEN’S INNER JOY, which you can find here: http://www.teenwiseseattle.com/InnerJoy

Jen O’Ryan, Double Tall Consulting

As the founder and principal consultant at Double Tall Consulting , Jen works with executives and business leaders on LGBTQ+ inclusion strategies for their organizations. She also helps parents and families navigate their childrens’ coming out process and spends time teaching children about gender identity and orientation.

Jen is passionate about helping people to understand the power of language and small, incremental changes that can have a big impact on inclusion – there is a ripple effect in changing people’s perceptions and unconscious bias. It is important to her to help people understand the nuance of gender identity and orientation by making “awkward” topics feel more accessible.

In her daily life, Jen manages the work-life balance by staying on top of her schedule with visual reminders. She organizes her schedule to track when she cancels plans so that she is able to evaluate whether she is putting her energy in the right places. And, Jen says the other way she manages her work-life balance is, “When it’s time to unplug, I unplug completely.”

Jen is currently offering 30 minute consultations for business leaders and 45 minutes for parents – stop by www.DoubleTallLLC.com to learn more!

Being a parent is a beautiful opportunity, allowing you to contribute to the human life cycle; but with it comes serious responsibility. It’s more so as a mom because right from when you give birth to your adorable kids, you are immediately responsible for their safety, and this takes on different forms. Their health is your concern, and when they grow past toddlers, up comes the need to send them to school. You want to push them through elementary, junior high, high school, and then college. All in all, your priorities change once you become a mom. All the necessary stages your family passes through require adequate resources.

Are you afraid to want more? Many times women feel ashamed or scared to want another identity besides their “Momma” title. I want you to know that wanting to work on a business or side project that brings you joy does not make you a bad mom. Thankfully, motherhood is so much more rewarding than challenging. Don’t get me wrong…there are days I cry in the closet (or a hallway…whichever is closer), but it is all worth it! If you are feeling depleted or that there is a void, it could be that you are not feeding your need for more or the very unique calling that has been placed on your life that only you can fulfill.

The misconception that a mom cannot run a thriving business and have a good relationship with their family is quite prevalent. In actuality it just takes more effort to create this balance but it is more than possible. The tough part about being in charge of a business is not bringing a bad day home with you. Being able to compartmentalize is going to be imperative as you do not want to scream at your kids because the marketing team failed on their latest campaign. This is going to take cooperation from your significant other as well as caring for the kids will be a true team effort. The following are tips for a mom to balance her time between a successful business and her family.
